Yelagiri is a small hill station amidst four hills, in Vellore district, at an altitude of 1050 m above sea level. It is best suited as a weekend getaway from Chennai or Bengaluru. The Highest peak in the hills is Swamimalai at an altitude of 1322 m above sea level. One can reach the hill station from NH46 by turning to the left at vaniyambadi to the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road (SH-18). There are two main villages up the hill namely, Athnavoor and Nilavoor. The road to the top is a MDR (Major District Road) and has 14 hairpin bends. There is a Telescope observatory on the way top. Athnavoor is the first town reached after driving through the hairpin bends. Yelagiri can be visited any time of the year as the climate remains the same throughout the year.
