Munnar is a small town amidst a hill station in Idukki district on the Western Ghats. The name ‘Munnar’ in Malayalam and Tamil means Three Rivers. It is named so as the three rivers  Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala creates a confluence here. However the whole place is called Munnar at times.

It is a picturesque hill station carpeted with tea plantations which contribute to the scenic view around, whenever moved out of the town. The hill stations have many towns and villages where the inhabitants are mainly Tamilians and Malayalees. The tea plantations in the hills are owned and maintained by Tata Ltd. There are many Tea factories in the hills.  The towns around Munnar are Marayoor, Devikulam and Adimaly. The pincode is 685612 and the STD code is 04865. The suitable time to visit Munnar is from September to June

A peaceful Weekend getaway called Yelagiri

About Yelagiri

Yelagiri is a small hill station amidst four hills, in Vellore district,  at an altitude of 1050 m above sea level.  It is best suited as a weekend getaway from Chennai or Bengaluru. The Highest peak in the hills is Swamimalai at an altitude of 1322 m above sea level. One can reach the hill station from NH46 by turning to the left at vaniyambadi to the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road (SH-18). There are two main villages up the hill namely, Athnavoor and Nilavoor. The road to the top is a MDR (Major District Road) and has 14 hairpin bends. There is a Telescope observatory on the way top. Athnavoor is the first town reached after driving through the hairpin bends. Yelagiri can be visited any time of the year as the climate remains the same throughout the year. Summer may be slightly warmer compared to other seasons. The pin code of Yelagiri is 635853 and the STD code is 04179.
